James Budd Bissett brn Gateshead Co Durham Killed in Action Anzio Italy 1944

This is a photo of James Budd Bissett Son of James Budd Bissett and Sylvia Bissett (nee Harrison) at the age of about 14. James (Jim) was born in Gateshead Co. Durham on the 10th January 1924. He joined the 2nd Battalion Durham Light Infantry as a boy soldier in about 1938 He received a certificate to confirm that No 44530, Boy ,Bissett,J of the 2nd Bn.The Durham light Infantry passed his Army Council Examination for his Army certificate of Education 3rd Class in September 1938 at Blackdown. When the war started Jim went to London to live with a relative where he was working as a Factory hand. He joined the territorial Army Queens Regt. and was later called up No 6104552 James Budd Bissett He was later sent to North Africa and Transferred to the 2nd Battalion Wiltshire Regiment. He went into action with this Regiment and they sailed for Anzio. He was promoted to Acting Lance corporal and was killed in Action in Anzio on the 21st March 1944.
